Lexie racing at the Liatoppen Festival in Norway
April 8, 2017
Capping off a great season, ASC Training Center Biathlete Lexie Madigan, age 14, has been named to the US Biathlon Youth/Junior Development Team by the US Biathlon Association’s International Competition Committee. As in other sports, the USBA Development Team is the primary feeder team for the US Olympic Biathlon Team.
Madigan just returned from the Liatoppen Biathlon races in Norway where she finished 3rd in the girls 15 year age group out of a large field and also posted several top ten finishes. The Liatoppen Festival is an annual event which attracts thousands of young competitors between the ages of 11 – 16. ASC Training Center Biathlon Director and Coach Glenn Jobe, a former Olympic Biathlete, led the trip and coached the US team members.
Coach Jobe and the Team
Madigan has had a winning season, posting podium results in almost every competition she’s entered. She had a bit of a setback in early January, when after winning several qualifying events in Jericho, NY, she was named to the Youth (U19) Biathlon World Championship Team. The International Competition Committee later ruled that she was too young to compete internationally and gave her spot to an alternate. Being named to the USBA Development Team will certainly take the sting out of that disappointment.
The US Biathlon Association supports and encourages the development of biathlon in the United States and prepares athletes for international competition, including the Olympic Winter Games. The ASC Training Center has the only 16 point, Olympic distance year round Biathlon Range in the West and offers summer and winter programs and hosts numerous sanctioned races.
